In a welcoming ceremony, which may trigger a controversy, six men arrested for inciting violence that led to the murder of police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh in Bulandshahr in December last year, were greeted with garlands by members of right-wing groups after they were released on bail on Saturday.

In a video, which is going viral, accused Shikhar Agarwal, Jeetu Fauji, Hemu, Upendra Raghav, Saurav and Rohit Raghav can be seen being welcomed with cheers and slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’, ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, and ‘Vande Mataram’ after they stepped out of the district jail.

Reports suggest cellphone videos were shot by local journalists.

A mob of some 400 people, including right-wing activists, fought pitched battles with police on December 3 in Siana area of Bulandshahr district, apparently after right-wing activists were angered by the discovery of cow carcasses strewn in a nearby jungle.

They set fire to dozens of vehicles, hurled stones and also fired at police who retaliated with gunfire. In the violence, inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, the station house officer of Siana, was killed.

A video has emerged showing a young man with his hand over a bleeding wound near the abdomen, being helped by other people as they all run. Someone is heard saying the man has been shot.
