Minutes after the arrest of liquor baron Vijay Mallya by the Scotland Yard in London, Twitterati hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with one of them saying, ”Till now exemplary display of walking the talk by PM Modiji, ‘Na khaunga Na Khane dunga’”.
Liquor baron Vijay Mallya, who has been accused of loan default worth crores, was on Tuesday arrested by the Scotland Yard in London.
In February, India had asked the UK to extradite Mallya, who is facing charges of money laundering and default of loan in the country. Several warrants were also issued against him.
Last month, India’s request was certified by the Secretary of State in the UK. Last week, a Delhi court had issued an open-ended non-bailable warrant against the 61-year-old in a case of alleged violation of foreign exchange rules.
A year ago, Mallya left India as a group of banks made attempts to recover around Rs 9,000 crores in loans to his Kingfisher Airlines.
