Soon after being declared the Gujarat Chief Minister of 13th State Assembly on Friday, Vijay Rupani said that he and his team will work for the welfare of the people and contribute to all-round development.

Addressing the media at BJP office in Ahmedabad Rupani said, “Team Gujarat is prepared and committed to fulfill the expectations and aspirations of the people irrespective of their caste, religion, profession or practice. “

He also thanked the Gujarat BJP lawmakers for selecting him as their leader. “My sincere gratitude to Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah for reposting trust and confidence. I also thank Gujarat BJP legislative party for sustaining the trust.”

Rupani’s deputy Nitin Patel also assured that they will continue to work for the people. He said, “I want to give assurance to Gujarat public that I and Vijay bhai will continue to work for the people with the help of other party members like our previous government.”

Rupani and Patel were declared as chief minister and deputy chief minister of 13th Gujarat Assembly respectively after newly elected Gujarat BJP lawmakers accepted them as their legislative leaders.

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Arun Jaitley said, “Their names were put to the house which unanimously accepted it.”

The Union Minister added, “We had asked the lawmakers for any alternative proposals but no names were given. Since no recommendation was given, we declared Ruapni as CM and Nitin his deputy.”

Names of Rupani and Patel as leader and deputy leader for 13th Gujarat Assembly respectively were proposed by Bhupendra Singh. It was supported by five other legislators.

The BJP had registered a sixth straight Assembly poll win in the western state. The saffron party won 99 seats in the 182-members house. Congress will sit in the Opposition, which has bagged 77 seats.
