Amid the public outrage, the Uttar Pradesh police on Sunday registered a fresh FIR in Apple executive Vivek Tiwari’s murder case. In the new FIR, Vivek’s wife Kalpana has named the two accused constables who shot her husband and narrated the sequence of the events more specifically.
In the second FIR, Kalpana narrated the entire incident as told to her by Sana - the woman who was with Vivek during the fateful night. In the FIR, Kalpana’s wife said that Sana read the names of both the accused constables - Prashant Kumar and Sandeep Kumar – on their nameplates.
It was Prashant who fired the shot and Sandeep, who was hitting the bonnet of their car with a baton didn’t try to stop him. Both have been charged under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
"Two policemen on a bike asked Vivek to stop the car but he continued to drive as it was late and he was concerned about my safety," Sana said, as mentioned in the FIR.
"Sandeep sitting on the pillion hit the vehicle with a lathi. In the meantime, Prashant rode ahead, parked his bike in the middle of the road, got down and immediately Prashant put his pistol on the windshield and shot. Even then sir (Vivek) continued to drive and after about half-kilometre rammed into a pole,” the FIR read.
The Apple executive was shot dead early on Saturday morning in Lucknow's posh Gomti Nagar. Uttar Pradesh police chief OP Singh condemned the shooting and said that the two constables will be dismissed from service. Singh added that he has reprimanded police personnel to "change their attitude and revive image amongst masses".
Reacting to the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe will be ordered if the need be.
