Mann ki Baat: PM Modi warns against violence, wishes nation on festivals, announces sports portal | Highlights

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing the nation through his popular radio program 'Mann Ki Baat' at 11 AM on Sunday. It is 35th episode of the programme and is likely to touch upon the floods, law and order and sports. 

PM Modi may also express displeasure over the riots in the aftermath of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. According to a report, the recording of the radio show was also affected by the violence.  The usual timeline for recording and editing of Mann Ki Baat reportedly went for a toss after the violence broke out. 

Upcoming festivals may also feature in the Sunday’s episode. 

Highlights of PM Modi's Mann ki Baat: 

#Achievements of PMJDY: 

1. Total PMJDY accounts opened increased from 12.55 crore in January 2015 to 29.52 crore as of 16th Aug 2017.

2. The number of rural accounts opened under PMJDY has grown from 7.54 crore in January 2015 to 17.64 crore as of 16th Aug 2017.

3. No. of RuPay cards issued increased from 11.08 crore in January 2015 to 22.71 crore as of 16th Aug 2017.

4. The total balance in beneficiary accounts Rs. 65,844.68 crore and the average balance per account increased from Rs. 837 in January 2015 to Rs. 2231 as of 16th Aug 2017.

5. Zero balance accounts under PMJDY declined from 76.81 % in September 2014 to 21.41 % in August 2017.

Special arrangements to listen the show have been made at the Sports Authority of India centers across the nation after it was learnt that PM Modi is expected to address sports persons on 2020 Tokyo Olympics

“The National Sports Day is approaching and the PM is very keen to see that India develops into a sporting country, so he will touch upon a lot of sports issues,” a sports ministry official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Modi is likely to speak on a range of issues including Tokyo Olympics, National Sports Day and Bharat Indigenous Games.

“He will also speak about Major Dhyan Chand and his inspirational achievements,” said another source.

Sports and Indian athletes have regularly figured in PM’s Mann ki Baat, the latest mention being India women’s cricket team’s historic runner-up finish at the World Cup in England.

He had advised Mithali Raj and her team to not feel disheartened following the defeat at the hands of hosts England as the entire country was proud of their feat.

Apart from the original address in Hindi, regional versions are broadcast in 18 languages and 33 dialects on the same day after the completion of the original broadcast in their respective regions. It is also broadcast in English and Sanskrit.
