New Delhi:

Protests over the alleged violence against students outside Ramjas College on February 22 took on national stature on Tuesday, as leaders such as CPI-M chief Sitaram Yechury and CPI's D Raja joined the students' agitation in the Delhi University's Art Department.

An FIR was registered against unknown persons in connection with the case of a Kargil martyr's daughter who complained of receiving "rape threats" allegedly from ABVP members.

Now the ABVP members have also demanded probe into the matter by writing a letter to Morris Nagar SHO.

20-year-old Gurmehar Kaur, who showed courage to raise voice with her social media campaign against ABVP, withdrew from the DU student march planned, saying she has shown enough courage and wants to be left alone.

As it happened:

On complaint of Gurmehar Kaur, crime branch cyber-unit of Delhi police registered case; Investigation on: Joint CP Dependra Pathak

Kaur, last week had changed her Facebook profile picture into one holding a placard reading, “I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP.”

Sooner the post went viral on social media, prompting students from various varsities across the country to change their profile pictures with similar placards.

This has led to a political slugfest with Congress demanding an apology from Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for his comments on the Ramjas row. Jaitley during a speech at London School of Economics and Political Science had said that an 'alliance of subversion' was the real reason behind violence on campus.

Following which, Congress spokesman Manish Tiwari asked for an apology from the minister for making such a remark on Indian academia, that too while on foreign soil.
