Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed an election rally in Aligarh on Sunday for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2017, starting on February 11. Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in seven phases, between Feb 11- March 8, which will be followed by counting on March 11.
The PM rally was held in Numaish ground in Aligarh. This was his first visit to Aligarh since he assumed prime minister's office.
On Saturday, Modi addressed a poll rally in Meerut, his first in UP after polls were announced. In his speech PM Modi alleged the corrupt he had "robbed" with note-ban have ganged up to bring him down and targeted the SP-Congress alliance, saying the two parties which abused each other till recently are now locked in an embrace to save themselves.
Modi asked the people in Uttar Pradesh to "rid the state of SCAM - S for Samajwadi (party), C for Congress, A for Akhilesh (Yadav) and M for Mayawati", saying they have to choose between development agenda of BJP and those who give shelter to criminals, indulge in vote bank politics and encourage land and mine mafias.
This remark drew severe reactions from Opposition parties, including BSP chief Mayawati.
