New Delhi :

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was stuck in an awkward situation on Thursday when BJP trolls started to imitate him by mock-coughing as soon as he started to speak at an event in Delhi. Fortunately, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, whom the Delhi chief minister had once accused of corruption, was also present at the stage and it was him who stepped in and asked his party workers not to misbehave and allow Kejriwal to speak. Several Union Ministers, including Nitin Gadkari, Harshvardhan along with Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had gathered at Vigyaan Bhawan for an official event jointly held by the National Mission for Clean Ganga and the Delhi Jal Board.

When Kejriwal took on the podium and started speaking, a bunch of BJP workers sitting in the front row started imitating him by mock-coughing. The BJP workers were trying to ridicule the AAP leader for the bouts of coughing he suffered in his early days of entering the politics. In 2015, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's advice, Kejriwal had visited a Bangalore-based Yoga centre for the treatment of his coughing problem. Later, he also underwent surgery to treat the chronic disease.

When the BJP workers tried to mock the Delhi CM, he requested them to stay silent. However, it was Gadkari's voice that fell to their dumb ears and they sat silently. "Please keep quiet. This is an official event," Gadkari hushed the crowd and asked Kejriwal to continue.

Following this, the Delhi CM showered praises upon the BJP leader, saying that Nitin Gadkari never made him feel that he belonged to a rival party and expressed hope that the Narendra Modi led central government would also work with the Delhi government in the same spirit Gadkari has been doing.

“Nitin Gadkariji has never made us feel that he belongs to a rival party. I don’t know about others, but the way he has showered love on us, I don’t think the BJP people have got that much love. The spirit in which we have worked with Gadkari sahab, I hope we get to work with the Centre in the same spirit,” Kejriwal said.

Interestingly, Kejriwal had leveled allegations of corruption against Gadkari. Following that, the BJP leader had filed a defamation case against him and earlier this year, the AAP leader had to apologise to him to resolve the matter.
