Parliament is set for another crucial day as Rajya Sabha is slated to discuss Finance Bill amendments for consideration and return to lower house, while Lok Sabha will take up Goods and Services Tax bills, even as Opposition is prepping to stage protests against UP Govt’s alleged decisions against minority communities.
Rajya Sabha started a discussion on amendments in Union Budget introduced in Lok Sabha on Monday. On Tuesday, the discussion will continue as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley hopes to return the Finance Bill to Lok Sabha for final approval before April 12 when the session ends.
Lok Sabha will begin discussion on four bills aimed at rolling out the much-awaited Goods and Services Tax (GST). The bills, aimed at ushering in landmark tax reforms in the country were tabled in the House on Monday.
Jaitley introduced the Central GST, Integrated GST, Union Territory GST and the Compensation Law for passage by Parliament to implement the one-nation, one-tax regime.
The government proposes to launch GST from July 1. It is estimated that rolling out of the GST can add up to 2 per cent to India’s economic growth.
