Smart India Hackathon 2017: PM Modi interacts with students, inspires them to innovate for New India

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing thousands of aspiring innovators in “Smart India Hackathon 2017” ia video conferencing.

“Smart India Hackathon 2017” is being touted as the world's biggest Hackathon in which 10,000 programmers will compete in a live 36-hour long event finale which is being held at 26 locations in the country.

Hackathon 2017 is intended towards promoting innovation and creative thinking in young minds, especially engineering students.

The program focuses on solving issues of social importance. 29 ministries and government departments working on this have identified 598 problems and asked participants for the ideas to solve them.

In the last few days total of 7531 idea submissions have been received from approximately 42,000 students.

PM Modi is to address students via video conferencing for 15 minutes. The address will be followed by an interaction with participants across multiple locations.

What is Hackathon?

A Hackathon is a 1 to 7 day-long event in which computer programmers are involved in software development. Occasionally, there is a hardware component as well.

Hackathons are intended for many purposes, some for educational and some for social purposes, although in most cases the goal is to create usable software but there is no restriction on the type of software being developed.

However, Hackathons are disposed toward an idea, to have a specific focus, which can include the programming language used, the operating system, an application, an A PI, or the subject and the demographic group of the programmers.

07:35 AM: Inauguration of ‘Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2017

07:55 AM: Speech by dignitaries

08:30 AM: Hacking/Coding begins

11:30 AM: Expert input session by different ministry trainers

07:00 PM: First Round of Evaluation (Three judges per panel, 7 minutes per team, 4 minutes presenting, 3 mins Q and A)

09:00 PM: Coding begins

10:00 PM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the coders via video conferencing

00:00 AM: Experts Input Session II

01:00 AM: Zumba Dance activity

April 2:

06:00 AM:  Yoga session

09:00 AM: Second Round of Evaluation; 3 Judges Per Panel will evaluate implementation of ideas
