Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Portuguese counterpart Antonio Costa issued joint statement in Lisbon on Saturday. PM said that new agreements in the field of taxation, science, space, youth affairs and sports outline expanding scope of our partnership.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of forest fire, deepest condolences. New agreements in the field of taxation, science, space, youth affairs and sports outline expanding scope of our partnership. We have agreed to set up a joint science and Technology fund of four million euros," said PM Modi.

"We are determined to deepen our cooperation against terrorism and violent extremism. Portuguese passion for football runs deep, PM Costa himself is a big fan. This could form another league to further connect our societies. Indian films are being subtitled in Portuguese and a Hindi-Portuguese dictionary is being developed for our mutual benefit. We thank Portugal for your consistent support for India's permanent membership of UNSC, and of Multilateral Export Control Regime," said PM Modi.

"Number of agreements signed to promote exchanges between our youths, cultural exchanges; will have great impact in future. 17 cooperation projects have been identified, we are working with institutions. Our talks have covered wide variety of areas. Science is going to be one of the most important areas for our cooperation in the future. While in past it was maritime link that connected our two countries, but today its the digital link that'll join us in future," said Portuguese PM Antonio Costa.
