We do not communalise martyrs, Indian Army's rebuttal to Owaisi

In a veiled attack on All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi over his remarks on the terror attack at the Sunjuwan Army Camp, the Indian Army on Wednesday snubbed his notion by saying the Indian Army does not differentiate between its ranks and martyrs on the basis of community and religion.

“We don't communalise martyrs, those making statements don't know the Army well,” said Lt Gen Devraj Anbu, the Northern Army commander at a press conference.

“Enemy is frustrated and is trying softer targets. When they fail at borders they attack on camps. Yes, the youth joining terrorism is a concern, we need to address this trend. In 2017, we focused on leadership and eliminated it,” said Lt Gen Anbu.

Army’s counter charge came a day after Owaisi, during a function in Hyderabad, had said that five of seven soldiers martyred at the Sunjuwan Army Camp were Muslims.

“They (RSS) questions a Muslim’s loyalty for India in various TV news shows. They call us Pakistani. Now when five Muslims have died in Sunujwan why RSS is quiet?” he had asked.

On Saturday, Sunjuwan Army Camp was attacked by three terrorists in which seven soldiers were killed and at least 10 people suffered serious injuries.
