Whatsapp ban not to be imposed in India, SC dismisses petition

The Supreme Court has dismissed petition seeking ban on Whatsapp on the grounds that encryption service can attract terrorism in the nation with no traces of it.

The petion, filed by Haryana's Sudhir Yadav, claims WhatsApp has from April started to enable its every message with 256-bit encryption that cannot be broken into.

"Even if WhatsApp was asked to break through an individual's message to hand over the data to the government, it too would fail as it does not have the decryption keys either," reported IANS quoting petition.

Seeking a ban on the service, Yadav had claimed that terrorists can fearlessly talk on Whatsapp and this would be impossible to trace by Indian agencies.
