Where To Get Coronavirus Test: 35 Private Labs Authorised To Conduct COVID-19 Tests In India

Apart from government-run testing facilities, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has authorized 35 private laboratories across to conduct COVID-19 tests.

India is under lockdown due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. Apart from lockdown, testing is the most important factor in curbing the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak. In addition to the government-run testing facilities, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has authorised 35 private laboratories across to conduct COVID-19 tests. These include six laboratories from Delhi, four from Gujarat, three from Haryana, two from Karnataka, nine from Maharashtra, one from Odisha, four from Tamil Nadu, five from Telangana and one from West Bengal. Dr Lal PathLabs has also started conducting coronavirus tests. As many as 121 government laboratories have been approved by the ICMR to conduct tests.

The private labs will have to follow ICMR norms while testing. Here are the people who must be tested under ICMR's latest guidelines include:

All hospitalised patients with severe acute respiratory illness, shortness of breath and having fever and cough will now be tested for COVID-19 infection.

Anyone who has travelled abroad in the past 14 days and has symptoms like fever, cough, or difficulty in breathing Asymptomatic direct and high-risk contacts of an infected person should be tested between day 5 and day 14 of coming into contact with the infected person.

Any health care worker looking after Covid-19 patients who develops symptoms or those who are exposed to a confirmed case.

Any direct or high-risk contacts — those living in the same house and health care workers who come in contact without proper personal protective equipment – even if they do not have symptoms.
