To mark the celebrations of India's one of the most auspicious days of the Hindu calendar, Guru Purnima; Sandhya Gupta, an Agra-based woman devotee on Saturday made a donation of two kg gold 'paduka' (sandals) to the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust (SSST) in Shirdi.
Sachin Tambe, trustee of SSST told PTI, "The gold sandals donated by Gupta have been ceremoniously installed in Dwarkamai temple".
Gupta said, "Today, I am very happy as the 'padukas' donated by me were accepted as 'guru dakshina'." India is perhaps the only country in the world that has a special day celebrating the guru as the spiritual guide.
Thousands of devotees from different parts of the country have gathered in Shirdi as the three-day long guru pournima festival began on Saturday.
