Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday interacted with beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) through his ‘Narendra Modi’ mobile application.
During the interaction, Modi told them that his government in the Centre was working towards making the housing sector free from corruption and middlemen to ensure people get their own houses without hassles.
“We have been working to free the housing sector from middlemen, corruption and ensuring that the beneficiaries get their own home without hassles,” Modi said during the interaction with beneficiaries of the scheme.
The prime minister said that the latest technology was being used in the housing sector which would enable faster construction of affordable houses for the poor in urban and rural areas of the country.
Modi said that his government was working in mission mode to ensure that every Indian owns a home by 2022 when India will celebrate its 75 years of Independence.
“Under the PMAY, the government plans to build around three crore houses in rural areas and one crore houses in urban areas. We have taken a mission mode approach towards providing housing for all by 2022,” he said.
Modi said that the central government has enhanced the financial help for the scheme up to Rs 1,25,000 from the earlier assistance of Rs 75,000.
So far, the government has given its nod to build over 47 lakh houses in urban areas and over 1 crore house in rural areas, he added.
