In a shocking statement on Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that people should not leave their children on government’s mercy once they are two years old.

The moment children turn two-years-old, I feel that parents might just start dumping their responsibilities on the government,

He said the safety of infants belongs to every section of the society. This responsibility cannot be left entirely to the government.

His remarks came in the wake of the death of 61 infants in the last 72 hours at Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College, triggering panic in the hospital.

It is the same hospital where 70 infant deaths were reported three weeks ago, from various causes including oxygen shortage. As per reports, more than 290 children have died in the hospital in August.
