Amid stir over the new Citizenship Law, a topper in mass communication from Pondicherry University has refused to accept the gold medal. Earlier, she was denied an entry in the convocation function of the University when president Ram Nath Kovind was present there as the chief guest, say reports.
The topper, Rabeeha Abdurehim, who has been openly opposing the new citizenship law, was denied permission as department administration was wary that she could raise slogans against the law in the presence of the President. Rabeeha said that the special superintendent of police came and took her outside of the hall to ‘have a word’ with her.
However, she was then made to stand outside for more than an hour. According to reports, two more medallists also skipped the convocation ceremony saying that they don’t want to receive medal from President Kovind as he had given nod to CAA and enabled it to become a law.
In a similar incident, a video has surfaced which shows Jadavpur University student tearing a copy of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and chanting “Inquilab Zindabad” on stage during the convocation ceremony on Tuesday.
The video is going viral on the social media. Students of the university have been protesting against the amended Citizenship Law.
Debsmita Chowdhury, the topper in the Department of the International Relations, ripped the vile Citizenship (Amendment) Act and chanted Inquilab Zindabad on the stage after receiving the Gold medal at the ceremony.
