Calvin Klein’s new campaign got slammed for quite an apparent reason lately. Their newest campaign #MyCalvins campaign has big names like Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner, FKA twigs, Kendrick Lamar, and more.
Earlier this month, Calvin Klein had put up two ads on a billboard in Soho, one of the busiest streets in New York City. The ad shows Klara Kristin, on the left, leaning backwards provocatively on a couch with the words, “I seduce in #mycalvins," while on the right, rapper Fetty Wap is pictured from the neck up with the statement, “I make money in #mycalvins.”
Heidi Zak, the CEO of lingerie company ThirdLove, slammed Calvin Klein for the sexist lines it used in the ad. She started a "Take Down Sexist Billboard in NYC petition" for it last Thursday.
The billboard propagates an archaic and offensive gender stereotype that women are nothing more than sexual objects, while men are the breadwinners,” Zak said in the petition.
“Calvin Klein has a vast assortment of content for this campaign, so we find it appalling that the company chose to put these two images side by side in one of the most highly visible intersections in the country. Is the message of Calvin Klein that women are only good for seduction? Are we stuck in the 1950s? Are these the values of the Calvin Klein brand? Soon after the billboard was taken down overnight.
