Have you ever noticed that gunky yellowish eye booger that you often get to see in the morning? That crusty yellow and gross thing in the corner of your eye is nothing else but dirt. That mysterious eye gunk is actually a build up of mucus, bacteria, dust, dirt, and dead skin cells - that collect in the corner of your eyes when you sleep.
Science behind it
Basically, what happens is when we are awake, we blink our eyes. Each blinking wipes away the build up of mucus, bacteria and dust - keeping eyes fresh. But when we sleep, blinking naturally stops and that gives rise to the build up of gunk in our eyes that often collects in the corner of our eyes.
Also when you wear lot of mascara or eyeliner chances are you will notice more of eye boogers.
What you can do?
Before going to bed you can take a shower, thereafter apply moisturiser and cleanser. After that take an ear bud and clean the corner of your eyes, you will extract some black particles (probably) out of your eyes. That’s how you can avoid eye boogers.
