Supermodel Irina Shayk who has been in the fashion industry since 2007 opens up about the real reason she joined the industry. Raised in rural Russia and going on to win Miss Chelyabinsk 2004 eventually leading to more international recognition after she was scooped up by model scouts, the now 33-year-old Russian model revealed that her aim was never to work in the fashion industry and she wanted to study marketing.

Revealing more insights about her rags-to-riches climb, the supermodel added that growing up she had no access to the world of fashion and she give the modelling assignment a go to support her family, Contactmusic reports.

"We lived in a super small village, we never bought fashion magazines, I didn't even know that world existed. When I was asked to be a model, at first I said no, I wanted to finish studying marketing at college.

"My mum had been saving up to pay for it. Then I realised modelling would be a good way to help my family. Money was my main driver," Shayk said.

She believes it is important to be "strong and stubborn" if one wants to have a successful modelling career.

"I was older than other girls - some started modelling aged 13. I wasn't a size zero, I was bigger and I was sexy. 'Now, because of Instagram, it is not really about being a size zero, but back then, all the girls were skinny and I wasn't.

"There are so many people who tell you to lose weight, to colour your hair or cut it or do this or that... It's very important not to lose who you really are," she added.

Now owing the fashion industry like a boss, the supermodel trotted the CR Runway x LuisaViaRoma 90th Anniversary Show in Florence, Italy on Thursday, just days after Bradley Cooper and she called it quits.

Sporting two looks for the runway, the A-list model, for the first look looked fierce in black pinstripe blazer and pencil skirt, with sheer black garters and stockings and a sheer black lace bustier exposed under the blazer which was finished off with black lace gloves and scarf.

For the second look, Irina wore an all-leather outfit, with a skin-tight black dress and long black leather gloves.
She was also joined by other supetmodels like Karolina Kurkova, Doutzen Kroes, Joan Smalls and sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid.
