US president Donald Trump’s India visit with his family, their gestures, public statements and fashion choices has been the talk of the town ever since the landed at Ahmedabad airport on February 24. After Ivanka Trump made a powerful statement of sustainable fashion wearing the same outfit she once sported for an Argentina event, the fashion entrepreneur went Indian flaunting a handwoven sherwani weaved with Bengal silk from designer Anita Dongre’s line.
Melania Trump however was stuck to her western dressing with Carolina Herrera midi dress with floral embroidery after choosing a white pantsuit with an India twist, green Banarasi sash.
Dongre said in a statement that the sherwani Ivanka wore to attend the US president's ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan is timeless and a classic. "We created this style twenty years ago and it's amazing to see how beautifully relevant it is even today. A powerful, standout silhouette, a sherwani carries the same charisma in absolutely any colour but my personal favourites are the evergreen blue, white and black," Dongre said.
Melania donned a bow-detailed embroidered cotton-silk dress with a red belt and white stilettoes by veteran Venezuelan fashion designer Carolina Herrera., a favourite among first ladies of the US. The fashion designer has also earlier dressed Michelle Obama, Laurna Bush and Jacqueline Lee Kennedy Onassis.
