Amazon India Fashion Week 2016 comes to an end

With the theme being “India Modern”, nine ace designers including Rajesh Pratap Singh and Anju Modi brought the curtains down on the Amazon India Fashion Week 2016. The grand finale saw designers showcasing their traditional roots with the help of modern silhouettes on the runway, which saw ropes and cylindrical pipes hanging from the ceiling in a dimly lit set-up and live contemporary music playing in the background.

“The theme was India Modern and the idea was to showcase how fashion captures the spirit of the times,” said Narendra Kumar, Creative Director, Amazon Fashion.

The designers presented five to six ensembles each using new-age interpretations of Indian design elements, textiles, silhouettes and craftsmanship in tones of indigo blues, earthy hues and whites.

The show began with Rajesh’s midnight blue and gold creations. The five pieces, mostly long jackets teamed with pants, brought out the designer’s brilliant craftsmenship and sleek cuts.

Young designer Rahul Mishra’s collection was an extension of his much-talked about Paris Fashion Week show. He used loads of flower motifs on long skirts and evening Khadi gowns.

“My collection was an extension of my collection, which I showcased in Paris Fashion week. I am actually exploring evening wear with my collection. I feel there is a huge demand for evening wear across the globe,” Mishra said.

Modi’s five pieces brought out the designer’s sensibilities of ethnic colourful collection, which saw intricate thread works.

“We all are very lucky to present our collection. This shows our hard work and the hardwork of our artisans and craftsmen,” she said.

For Samant Chauhan, sharing space with ace designers like Rajesh was huge. His line saw long dresses in grey shades. He also used the intricate thread work on his ensembles.

“I am elated that I got the opportunity to share the stage with my idol Rajesh Pratap Singh,” said an overwhelmed Samant.

Designer duo Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna showcased men’s wear besides their tie-and-dye women’s collection, which saw jackets teamed with pants and skirts.

Pankaj and Nidhi’s collection saw fish-tail middy dresses in the hues of pink and orange. Even models sashayed down the ramp in pink and orange hair streaks.

Abraham and Thakore’s collection saw ghagras, whose cholis had hoods at the back. The rust collection was appreciated by the audiences.

The other designers, who presented their ethnic yet modern collection, were Pero and Amit Aggarwal.

The five-day fashion extravaganza saw the participation of 45 designers.
