A 10-month old baby has died due to swine flu in Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad and the toll has reached to five. Since January 1, at least 100 cases of H1N1 disease have been found positive in the state.
The child was a resident of Bibinagar in Yadari district. The baby’s treatment was going on since January 19, and was on ventilator, but his condition worsened and was succumbed to the deadly virus, according to district health officials.
And this was the first case of death of infant due to swine flu. The other reported victims of the disease were 60-year old resident of Puranapul, 58-year old woman from Saroornagar, resident of Nawab Saheb Kunta who was 38 years old and a 35-year-old woman from Yadadri district.
"We kept the baby boy on ventilator, but he could not survive. He died two days ago," said Dr J V Reddy, superintendent of Gandhi Hospital.
Well there are two more suspected of having the disease in Gandhi Hospital alone, and two are undergoing treatment.
Sources said of 750 swap samples tested by IPM since January 1, a little over 100 cases were found to be H1N1 positive, including 6-8 found positive on Friday.
