A latest study, led by senior author Dr. Anke Maitland-van der Zee, has proved that mothers should breastfeed their new borns in order tpo prevent children's asthma exacerbations in a later future.
According to the latest findings, children who have been breastfed, are at a lower risk of asthma exacerbations in future in comparison to those who are not blessed with same.
The year-long study was conducted on 960 children aged between 4 to 12 years. The group of infants was using regular asthma medication at the time.
Talking about their latest invention Dr. Anke Maitland-van der Zee has said, "Although in our study breastfeeding was shown to be a protective factor for asthma exacerbations, it is still unclear whether there is a causal relation between breastfeeding and asthma exacerbations however the relation might be explained by the influence of breastfeeding on the immune system."

"Changes in the composition and activity of the gut microbiome in early life can influence the immune system and these changes might indirectly lead to changes in asthma later in life," she added further.
"Further prospective research is warranted to confirm this association and to clarify the underlying mechanisms," Zee concludes.
