Rice is a versatile grain consumed by people around the world and counts as one of the staple grain in Indian diet. While white rice is the most commonly consumed type, but brown rice is widely recognized as a healthier option.

White rice is uber processed. Though white rice is enriched, it’s still missing the added benefits that brown rice has including protein, fiber, potassium, selenium, choline, phosphorus, and magnesium.

Brown rice is a whole grain. That means it contains all parts of the grain — including the fibrous bran, the nutritious germ and the carb-rich endosperm.

White rice, on the other hand, has had the bran and germ removed, which are the most nutritious parts of the grain. The bran of brown rice contains many powerful antioxidants.

Studies show that due to their antioxidant levels, whole grains like brown rice can help prevent chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes.

However, the real lesson here is that it's never as simple as labelling foods good or bad. Neither white nor brown rice is intrinsically ‘bad’, and both can be enjoyed in moderation as part of a balanced diet.
