Delhi’s air pollution over the years has been fluctuating from the bad to worse. With a basket full of factors contributing to the pollution, the best one can do is fight back. With pollution, there has been an increase in the decline of physical health with issues like burning sensation in the eye, coughing, dryness in throat, irritation in nose and itchy skin. 

As such, in view of all the mangle of air pollution reaching alarming levels and toxic haze hovering around the city, the best weapon becomes oneself.

These are the everyday tips you can practise to protect yourself and your near-dear ones from air pollution:

Buy a pollution mask: While staying indoors is advised, you have to go out at one point of time. Cover up your face using pollution masks such as N95 and N99. You can also use a cloth to cover up your face if the masks are unavailable.

Opt for a combine or carpool transport: The one thing you can do to help fight pollution is not to be a contributing factor. In a city such as Delhi, fuel emissions are one of the major reasons for air pollution. Use close mode of public transport such as a bus or a metro or go eco-friendly with a bicycle.  

Invest in a good air-purifier: Air pollution does not even spare you in the nestle of your home. Invest in a good air purifier so that its series of filters will remove harmful airborne particles like dust, fuel emissions, pollens etc.

Keep indoor plants: Indoor plants are easy to care of and are also one of the easiest ways to naturally improve the air quality. Indoor plants such as aloe vera plants, spider plants, snake plants, golden pothos, bamboo palm or weeping fig are easily available and can safeguard your indoor surroundings.

Eat healthy and drink lots of water: Eat a balanced and healthy diet and drink lots of water to flush off air pollutants that enter through your mouth and nose. Go for immunity-booster food such as citrus food, broccoli, garlic, ginger, yogurt, almonds to stay health and fight the illnesses that hovers around.

It is also wise to avoid morning walks or outdoor exercises at this time of the period. Also, it you are facing shortness of breath or unpleasant breathlessness, especially for people with health conditions, including asthma, heart disease, keep in close touch with your doctor.
