New Delhi:

An 11-year-old brain dead patient gives a new lease of life to four critically ill patients after her father agreed to donate her vital parts heart, liver, and a kidney to needy patients.

Despite the doctors' best effort, nothing could be done to restore her oxygen supply. The girl collapsed suddenly on September 15, after which she was admitted to two different hospitals. Doctors found that due to some complications supply of oxygen to her brain had stopped.

Dr Vasantrao Pawar Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Nashik has declared Tejashree brain-dead on Tuesday. After that, she was brought to Rishikesh Hospital where all her organs were retrieved on Wednesday.

Rishikesh Hospital centre is authorised by the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC), Pune, to perform retrieval of organs for transplant.

Similarly, the liver was sent by road to Pune's KEM Hospital and one of the kidneys was sent to Ashwini Sahakari Rugnalaya in Solapur."The liver and kidney were dispatched in an ambulance from our hospital. After both the organs arrived in Pune, the kidney was transported in another vehicle to Solapur," Rakibe said.

The second kidney and the eyes were taken to Nashik-based Apollo Hospital and Manishakner Eye Hospital, respectively.

"Despite the loss, the farmer and his wife agreed to donate their daughter's organs after I convinced them about the usefulness of donating organs," said Rakibe. "After I spoke with the farmer and his wife at length, they gave their consent. The gesture is really praiseworthy," he added.
