Guava leaves are packed with medicinal properties and the fresh guava leaves are considered as a natural pain reliever. Just like the guava fruits are used for making beverages, fruit jams and used in other food ingredients, guava leaves are also rich in medicinal properties, and it is significantly beneficial for health.

Owing to side effect resulting to the usage of modern medicines and drugs, herbal plants are being increasingly considered for various diseases treatment. And guava leaf (Amrood ke Patte in Hindi) is one of them.

Here are some of the health benefits of guava leaves:

Guava leaves reduce the severity of Diarrhea

The rich in fibers and power-packed of medicinal components, guava leaves are herbal remedy for diarrhea and dysentery. Guava leaves has been a natural remedy for managing and controlling dysentery since time immemorial.

According to ‘Journal of Smooth Muscle Research’ published in 2008, scientists had proven the medicinal benefits of guava leaves for dysentery after the anti-diarrheal properties of guava leaves successfully tested on rats successfully tested. For treating diarrhea, boil 30 grams of guava leaves with a handful of rice flour in 1-2 glasses of water and drink the concoction twice a week until relieved.

Guava leaves may lower the risk of cancer

Guava leaves’ high lycopene and antioxidants content help to fighting cancers like breast, prostate and oral cancers. The high quantities of lycopene and vitamin C, vitamin A helps to lower the risk of cancer especially prostate. According to a 2012 study published in the journal Cancer Prevention Research, cancer-fighting properties present in guava leaves help inhibit the production of androgen, which is the male hormone responsible for the growth of cells in some types of prostate cancer.

Guava leaves helps to control sugar level (Diabetes)

This seasonal fruit guava is abundantly available in India but not everyone knows the pharmacological properties of guava leaves. Tea made from the leaves of the guava plant is effective in managing diabetes and controlling blood cholesterol level. A study published in the journal Nutrition and Metabolism reports that guava leaves extract can reduce postprandial or post-meal blood glucose levels. The leaf can inhibit the action of alpha-glucosidase, an enzyme which breaks down starch and other carbohydrates to glucose. Drinking guava leaf extract with every meal improves other symptoms of diabetes like hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance and hyperlipidemia.

Guava leaves enhance to reduce Acne and improves skin texture

The high percentage of vitamin C in guava leaves helps to improving skin textures and get rid of acne and other skin problems. The antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agents present in guava leaves kills the bacteria, resulting with clearer skin. How do treat? Crush a couple of leaves and apply to trouble spots regularly. Repeat this daily until the skin becomes clear. Also, apply a decoction of the leaves on your skin to help tone and tighten your facial muscles. Guava leaves also help for mitigating skin itchiness as the fruit leaves has rich in allergy blocking compounds.

Guava leaves boost brain functioning

Guava leaves contain vitamin B3 and B6, also known as niacin and pyridoxine which helps in improving blood circulation to the brain. The rich vitamins and other antioxidant properties present in the tropical fruit leaves stimulates cognitive functions and improve the nerve system of the brain.
