The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has started a nationwide movement to eliminate the social taboo that is linked with sexual health.
Sex is still a taboo in India, and doctors across the nation needed to break all the barriers and clinical inactivity, said Dr Ravi Wankhedkar, IMA national president. He further stressed on the importance of the initiative to break the taboo.
"IMA also proposed a plan of action to increase the awareness amongst the medical fraternity to change their mindset and attitude towards the taboo subject of sexual health, Wankhedkar said.
This is the first-of-its-kind initiave launched by the IMA for over three-and-a-half-lakh doctors to motivate them to end the taboo associated with sex.

Increasing awareness among schools and colleges by various means will also be a part of this agenda as education must teach the important lesson at school to put an end to the taboo.
The plan of this initiative is to hold pan-India educational seminars and also adopt schools and colleges to educate everyone, including students, teachers and parents by holding lectures, programmes, conferencers and symposia.
Plans are also afoot to hold fellowship course and national conferences.
A 12-month fellowship programme in clinical sexology have also been started for doctors who are MD and above and similar courses for MBBS doctors with at least 5 years of experience is on the cards as well, but no official announcement has been made regarding the latter.
An e-bulletin has also been planned to be released that will consist of all the information about various events related to sexual helth all across the country and abroad. The bulleting will also be carrying the basics of sexual history and conselling tips.
