Low dietary calorie linked with longer life span

Less calorie intake may lead to longevity

According to a new study, low calorie diet with proper nutrients can extend your lifespan and delay the onset of age-related disorders. We all know that calories are not body-friendly, over eating can also lead to many health issues such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease. A number of studies have already shown that restricting your calorie intake can may lead to a longer life.

An animal study was conducted which reported the metabolic reasons why these opposite diets may lead to such differences in longevity.

Four dietary categories were identified namely, low-fat, low-fat with calorie restriction, high-fat and high-fat with calorie restriction, for more than a year. Using nuclear magnetic resonance analysis the metabolic effects in blood and urine samples were examined.

On higher calorie diets, increased oxidative stress, disturbed lipid metabolism, suppressed glycolysis and altered gut-microbial metabolites were found as against the calorie-restricted ones. The study was published in Journal of Proteome Research.
