Being one of the largest causes of deaths in countries at a low or medium level of the Human Development Index, cancer has become a threat to the world.
The deadly disease claims over 8.2 million lives every year worldwide. Lung, liver, stomach, and bowel are the most common causes of cancer death worldwide, accounting for nearly half of all cancer deaths.
Amidst this dreadful situation, Maharashtra Health Minister Deepak Sawant and doctors at Tata Memorial Hospital, Parel join hands to raise awareness amongst healthcare providers on early detection of the disaese.
The hospital authority along with the state government have launched online tutorials for doctors to diagnose and treat cancer in a affordable cost.
According to Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi, professor of head and neck surgery at the institute, the online course is designed for physicians, gynaecologists, dentists, and other health care professionals and they can access the courses through https://www.omicuris.com.
"Through this project, we are trying to reach millions of doctors who are extremely busy working in rural areas and tier-two cities, and may not have the time to attend medical conferences," Dr Chaturvedi added.
The seven-week-long course which comprises 14 hours of video lectures, case studies, assessment questionnaires, and interactive webinars will benefit all accredited social health activist (ASHA) and primary health centre doctors across the state.
The onine tutorial will get a kick start in December throughout the state and is all set to be rolled out across all states as a national programme.
During the process, doctors all over the country will be taught about oral and other types of cancers, their prognosis and treatment through courses launched by oncosurgeons in Tata hospital.
