New Delhi:

Chinese doctors have removed around 13 Kgs of feces from the intestine of a 22 year-old man who was reportedly constipated since birth.

The unnamed 22-year-old had 30 inches of his grossly enlarged bowel removed by surgeons at Tenth People's Hospital of Shanghai in China.

The man is believed to be suffering from Hirschsprung, the rare congenital disease which causes bowels to swell because of the missing nerve cells in Colon which are supposed to control the gut. Chronic constipation leads to pile up of waste, creating what is known as a 'megacolon'.

Doctors said the man looked like he was nine months pregnant because of the painful enlargement and feces backup.

Media report suggests that If not treated early, a person can even develop sepsis - a potentially life-threatening complication in which toxins get mixed with the bloodstream. However, this man’s diagnosis was delayed until adulthood as his parents considered it a 'small ailment'.

Dr Yin Lu who performed the surgery on June 8 told Chinese news site The Paper that the man’s colon had swollen so much that he looked as if he was about to explode.

According to the patient he was taking laxatives for years which offers only minor relief and being uanble to take it more finally went to the hospital so doctors could relieve him of his symptoms.

Finally doctors removed a 30-inch long section of his colon filled with 13kg of faeces during the three-hour-long surgery.

After removing the gut, Chinese doctors stitched it up at both ends so that feces can not fall out.

According to latest study the disease namely Hirschsprung affects one in every 5,000 babies and is very rarely diagnosed in adults. Men are more commonly suffer from this particular disease.

In order to get relief, this type of constipation need to go through the stoma surgery.

Doctors further warn parents to take extra care of this kind of diseases from the very first day of their child's birth otherwise it can be changed into a worse form further.
