The city of Mumbai has been clinched by dengue and leptospirosis that has claimed lives of five people including two children in the first two weeks of September.

Mumbai: Dengue, leptospirosis claim five lives in first two weeks of September

The city of Mumbai has been clinched by dengue and leptospirosis that has claimed lives of five people including two children in the first two weeks of September.

Following heavy rainfall that led to flooding in parts of Mumbai on August 29, the civic body has reported nearly 1,700 people being admitted to various public hospitals for dengue-like illness. In addition, at least 34 people contracted leptospirosis, with most cases caused by wading through waterlogged areas.

According to BMC report, a nine-year-old boy from Juhu and a one-and-half-old girl from Dharavi died of dengue on September 10.  A 34-year-old man from Bandra became the third casualty.

While a 19-year-old man in Ghatkopar and a 27-year-old males from from Andheri succumbed to leptospirosis. Both were reported of wading through water.
