Parkinson’s disease, the degenerative disorder of the nervous system remains one of the world’s common affliction. A large section of global population is suffering from Parkinson’s.

Some of the common symptoms of Parkinson’s include tremors, muscular struggle such as difficulty in walking, involuntary movements, problems with body coordination or stiff muscles and so on.

People with Parkinson’s may also sometimes experience dizziness, fatigue, poor balance or restlessness. A girl named Neha Shahid Chaudhry after watching her grandfather’s everyday struggle decided to come up with a way of reducing their day-to-day struggle.

She designed a special walking stick for those suffering from Parkinson’s. The 23-year-old from Pakistan, a product design technology graduate of the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). 

She developed a device that will aid patients with locomotion should their limbs freeze. To put in simple words, the walking stick is equipped with a sensor - which on detecting a pause in motion, vibrates and helps the patient walk again.

Her smart walking stick may help a lot of patients who regularly experience joint freezing and abnormal gait symptoms due to the disease.
