Rare genetic condition slowly turning 26-year-old twins into stone

New Delhi:

26-year-old twin sisters from Ireland are turning to stone because of the rarest genetic condition that is found one-in-two-million.

From the three twins across the golbe that have this rare condition, Zoe Buxton and Lucy Fretwell are one, told Daily Mail. They have devloped a condition called fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP). In this condition, bone starts replacing muscle and tendons.

Some of the facts related to the condition are:

• FOP is an inherited disorder. It worsens over time.
• The disorder cause bone to arise in muscle, ligaments and tendons.
• Those who have this disorder have shortened big toes at the time of birth.
• Swelling is acused by FOP and it is difficult to eat if the jaw is affected.
• The movement gets limited in the patients.
• There is no cure to FOP but treatment gives relief to pain.

The twins are considering to have children despite the risk of it being passed on. They will participate in a trial for a new drug that could help their condition.
