A glass of red wine every week may improve fertility in women, the latest study has found. The research was carried out to find out the effects of alcohol on a woman’s ovarian reserve, meaning the quantity, health and viability of her eggs.
A team of researchers from Washington University in the US analysed 135 women aged between 18 and 44 years who kept a diary detailing of how much beer, spirits and red and white wine they consumed each month.
They also used ultrasound scanners to count each woman’s antral follicles, a proxy for the number of eggs she had left for the future.
As per the finding, it was revealed that women who consumed more than five servings of red wine a month enjoyed a higher ovarian reserve.

According to the researchers, that crucial component of red wine could be resveratrol, a molecule that protects cells against biological stress.
The researchers also noted that there was no link between white wine, beer and spirits and higher fertility.
