Tiny plastic fibres have been found by the researchers in drinking water in several countries across the world. Results show that 83 per cent of the samples brought for tests were found contaminated by pieces of plastic.
Orb Media conducted these tests and shared the details with The Guardian, which revealed that plastics tiny plastic fibres are not only found in ocean water but everywhere including tap water, food and air.
The United States tops the list with 94 per cent plastic fibres found in tap water. And most shockingly the samples were taken from sites including Congress buildings and Trump tower in New York.
After the US, Lebanon and India are the next in the list. Talking about the European nations including the UK, France and Germany, they have the lowest contamination rate with 72 per cent.

“We have enough data from looking at wildlife, and the impacts that it’s having on wildlife, to be concerned,” Sherri Mason, who is one of the study’s authors and a chemistry professor at the State University of New York said. “If it’s impacting (wildlife), then how do we think that it’s not going to somehow impact us?” she added.
“We don’t know what the [health] impact is and for that reason we should follow the precautionary principle and put enough effort into it now, immediately, so we can find out what the real risks are,” Dr Anne Marie, who conducted the research said.
