Female sanitary products cost a bomb to the pocket of an average woman and are something women’s cannot do without even if they choose to cut their budget on make-up or other lifestyle items. Moreover, they are taxable in almost every country and sometimes the tax sky rocket depending on the brand and this is one of the major reasons why so many under privileged women can't always afford it.

As brands gang up come out with cost effective and environment friendly women sanitary products, and activists rally for tax waiver on these items, Scotland is all set to make sanitary products freely available for all women in the nation.

Plans to make sanitary pads and tampons free for all women were approved by the Scottish parliament on Tuesday. When implemented, Scotland will become the first country in the world to do so, reported Reuters. The new policy will cost an estimated 24.1 million pounds ($31.2 million). The general public can collect free sanitary products from community centres, youth clubs and pharmacies.

Two years ago in 2018, Scotland became the first country in the world to provide free sanitary products in schools, colleges and universities. Netizens are ecstatic and are lauding the progressive move made by the Scottish government. Here are some of the reactions.

We hope that other countries too will follow suit shortly!
