When he was 18, Takioullah was asked by his school doctor to get a blood test because he had an abnormal size. The test diagnosed him with suffering from acromegaly, a disorder that results from excess growth hormone (GH).
Don Koehler
Don Koehler stood at 8 feet 2 inches. He was born in 1925 in Montana, United States. At the age of 10 his abnormal growth was noticed. Koehler was certified by The Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest living man in the world from 1969 until his death in 1981. His abnormal growth started when he was 10 and was attributed to acromegalic gigantism, a medical condition.
Sultan Kosen
Sultan Kosen, standing at 8 feet 3 inches was born in 1982 in Turkey. Presently he holds the Guinness World Record for tallest living male. His height resulted from acromegaly caused by a tumour affecting his pituitary gland. His condition was noticed when he was about 10 as he shot up to over six feet within no time.
John F Carroll
John F Carroll measured 8 feet 7.5 inches. Carroll was born in New York, United States. He suffered from severe, 2-dimensional spinal curvature and acromegalic gigantism.
John Rogan
John Rogan towered at 8 feet 9 inches. He was born in 1868 in Tennessee, United States and lived up till 1905. His height began to increase very quickly when he was 13. To this day, Rogan remains the second-tallest person on record.
Robert Wadlow
Robert Wadlow stood at 8 feet 11 inches. He was born in 1918 in Illinois, United States. Wadlow holds the record for being the tallest person ever recorded in modern history. He died in 1940 at a young age of 22 years. His abnormal growth is attributed to hyperplasia of pituitary gland which resulted in an abnormally high level of human growth hormone.
