Help stop the spread of Antibiotics resistance, tweeted WHO in its campaign, 'Let’s Stop Superbugs', saying “always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare professional before taking antibiotics”.

Antibiotics Resistance happens when bacteria change and become resistant to the antibiotics used to treat the infections they cause: WHO.

“#AntibioticResistance occurs everywhere in the world, in both rich and poor countries. It can affect anyone, of any age. Learn how it spreads,” the WHO wrote in its Twitter handle.

Antibiotics resistance is posing a big threat to global health and a serious challenge to the medical world. As scientists seek medical solution to it, WHO has started a social media campaign to stop the spread of antibiotics resistance—Let’s Stop Superbugs.

“#AntibioticResistance poses a big threat to global health. Handle antibiotics with care. Let’s #StopSuperbugs!

Underlining the importance of understanding this serious issue, the World Health Organisation has chart out an outline on how antibiotics resistance spreads.

Antibiotics Resistance: Here’s how it spreads, according to WHO:-

1  Antibiotics are given to food-producing animals and crops
2  Animals develop drug-resistance bacteria in the glut
3  Drug resistant bacteria reaches human through food or by direct animal-human contact
4  Drug resistance bacteria spreads to the general public
5  Antibiotics are given to patients which can result in drug-resistant bacteria developing in the gut
6  Patients attend hospitals or clinics
7  Drug-resistant bacteria spreads to other patients through unhygienic or unclean facilities
8  Drug-resistant bacteria spreads to the general public

In view of the global threat, here’s how to stop the spread of superbugs

1 Help prevent infections through good hygiene.
2 NEVER share antibiotics
3 Always seek the advice of a qualified health care professional before taking antibiotics! #AntibioticResistance

The WHO also says that misuse of antibiotics put all in the world at risk.

“Misuse of antibiotics puts us all at risk. Taking antibiotics when you don’t need them speeds up #AntibioticResistance”
