To face the challenge of swine flu, in case of swine flu cases being reported in the district, P L Sharma district hospital is preparing to ward off the disease. The hospital authorities have earmarked as many as 10 beds for any supposed swine flu case that might be reported. Also, around 300 N-95 masks –which are needed to protect oneself from H1N1 virus – have been acquired and medicines as well as protection kits are ready in case the need arises. 

Detailing the same, Dr P K Bansal, superintendent in chief at P L Sharma Hospital, said, “We have started preparing for swine flu at the district level. “The major symptom of swine flu is sudden breathing problem without pain in the chest,” said Dr Bansal. As many as 10 beds have been reserved for any case of swine flu that might come up. Also, cases – if and when they come to the fore – will be segregated into suspicious, probable and confirmed categories, and treatment will be given accordingly,” said Dr Bansal.

Though till now not a single case has turned up in Meerut so far, it is better to be proactive and undertake precaution. Also, medicines for the disease have been stocked. Nearly 700 Fluvir capsules, an anti-swine flu drug, have been kept at the hospital in case of emergency, apart from 5 personal protection kits for doctors too. A ready stock of 700 anti-swine flu medicines is available.
