New Delhi:

A latest study led by Jason Moser, Associate Professor at the Michigan State University in the US, has found that talking to yourself may help people to get rid of their stressful emotions without taking any further medicinal help. In addition to continue the practice people also need to talk in third person. It may even help them to react less to their negative, sad and unhappy experiences from the past.

According to this latest invention, published in the journal 'Scientific Reports', third-person self-talk is a much better and effortless form of emotion regulation than the way people usually talk to their own self. It may also be used as a strategy to regulate someone's emotion instantly.

Talking about the same Jason Moser has said, "Essentially, we think referring to yourself in the third person leads people to think about themselves more similar to how they think about others, and you can see evidence for this in the brain."

"That helps people gain a tiny bit of psychological distance from their experiences, which can often be useful for regulating emotions," he stated further.

In order to make the study happen, researchers have conducted two sets of experiments.

While in the first experiment, the brain activities of the participants were monitored by an electroencephalograph, the second experiment involved measuring brain activities using functional magnetic resonance imaging, or FMRI.

During the first experiment, participants have been seen reacting much lesser to disturbing photos after they talk to themselves in third person while the result of the second one proved that participants' brain have gone through lesser painful experiences from their past after the suggested talk.
