According to a new study vitamin C injections can be useful to stop the progression of blood cancer. Experts at the New York University conducted the study on mice and found that vitamin C jabs may be helpful in killing the faulty cells which are present in the bone marrow, which can help control the growth of cancer cells in our blood.
Certain genetic changes decrease the ability of an enzyme named as TET2. The enzyme encourages the stem cells to turn into mature blood cells. The genetic changes cause the blood cells to die in several patients who have certain kind of leukemia.
Researchers have said that vitamin C can emerge as a safe treatment for the blood diseases which are caused by TET2-deficient leukemia stem cells.
Changes in the genetic code which decrease TET2 function are found in about ten percent of the patients who have acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
It is also found in thirty percent of the patients who have a form of pre-leukemia called myelodysplastic syndrome and in about fifty percent of those with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia.
These cancers can cause maximum damage to the body and lead to infection risk, anemia and bleeding.
Vitamin C is known to be very beneficial for human health as it strengthens the immune system of the body and helps to fight against various viral and bacterial infections.
Vitamin C consumption is useful for better management when it comes to life-threatening diseases like cancer.
