Christian Bale in ‘Psycho, Cillian Murphy in ‘Red Eye’, Arthur Fleck in Batman movies, does this all ring a bell? The seemingly, well-spoken, immaculate men have a way of charming women in ‘we don’t’ know how’ but they are so attractive kind of way. Well, a study may have an answer as to why women may have an inclination towards psychopaths. With that being said, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Ted Bundy, one of American’s most notorious series killer was being able to charm women into their deaths, literally.
New study may have found the answer as to why women are attracted towards men with psychopath tendencies. Researchers from Brock University and Carleton University in Canada carried out a study into the correlation between desire and psychopathy. PhD student Kristopher Brazil recruited 46 males between the ages of 17 and 25. A female assistant then interviewed them on video, asking them about what they like to do on a first date and what they believe to be important in a relationship.
The same men were rated by the researchers on their psychopathic personality traits, that included their social intelligence and views on sex. Then, 108 women shown the two-minute clips of the selected males, where they rated their attractiveness, sexiness and how confident they were.
The study – published in Evolutionary Psychological Science found the men who turned in the highest results on the psychopathic scale were more attractive to women.
“Psychopathic men are really good at pretending to display what women are attracted to,” says Kristopher Brazil, one of two researchers who led the study, which was published last month in the medical journal Evolutionary Psychological Science.
“They’re really good at putting on this mask, and making themselves look attractive . . . You exude a larger-than-life presence, and give off an impression of greatness’’ Brazil added.
Brazil says psychopathy is twice as likely to affect men. So…the next time a man is dangerous attractive keep in mind that he might be a psychopath?
