World vitiligo day is observed every year on June 25 as an initiative to bring global awareness about the condition. A skin condition that affects about 1 % of the world’s population, vitiligo is caused by the loss of colour in the skin creating a variety of patterns on the skin from loss of pigment. The skin condition, most the most part though not fatal, the people with the condition are often subjugated to ostracization and discrimination for being different.
Vitiligo, like any other condition can affect anyone and everyone, hence to bring a broader understanding of the condition, World Vitiligo Day 2019 is themed "Mental and Medical Journey of Living with Vitiligo - The Journey Starts with ME!". On this particular on vitiligo, let us look at some of famous celebs who had the condition:
Michael Jackson: Many are not aware of this side of Michael Jackson. In fact, a lot of his shift towards makeup and skin colour change have been attributed to the condition which was eventually was diagnosed in 1984 and which he publicly announced in 1993 on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Winnie Harlow: One of the first model to walk the Victoria Secret Fashion show in 2018, Winnie is one of those celebs who have graced the condition with pride.
Jon Hamm: While vitiligo is caused mostly by a loss of pigment in the skin, a stress-induced vitiligo could also be one factors which is Hamm’s case. The actor has stress-induced vitiligo that affects his hands.
Joe Rogan: The comedian, mixed martial arts color commentator, podcast host, and actor has the condition that affects his hands and wrists.
Thomas Lennon: The actor\comedian and the star of "Reno 911!" star Thomas suffers from vitiligo on his hands, hips, and face.
