Indoor plants have been proven to reduce and filter toxins commonly found in office environment such as formaldehyde and benzene. In short, Indoor plants work as natural air purifier. With the millennial age, restricting workers to a closed environment of a work place becomes a rudimentary necessity. Hence, the need to keep indoor plants in office environment to reduce pollution and add freshness and beauty to the work place. The reduced pollution keeps you healthy. The freshness and the beauty of the plants works as a feel good factor for people in the room. Hence, indoor plants can keep you healthy and in a positive mood through the working hours.

However, not all indoor plants can curb indoor air pollution. Below are five Indoor plants that are suited for the most part of the year and can function as filtering agent or air purifier in an office environment.

1. Peace lily
An indoor plant to start with, Peace lily or spathiphyllum cleanse the air and grows mostly in low lighting areas, making it the perfect indoor plant to improve the office environment.
 
2. Warneck Draceana
Another indoor plant that only need indirect light to grow. Warneck dracaena combats pollutants commonly found in offices such as that of table varnishes, doors and hardwood floors. These indoor plant’s propensity to grow tall needs a separate space in office areas.
 
3. Weeping figs
Known to filter pollutants from carpets and furniture, this indoor plant known as the weeping figs or ficus benjamina also makes an excellent replacement for the plastic plants because of the leaf’s smooth texture.

4. Aloe vera
This indoor plant species of a cacti filters and improves the air quality. Given its different size, aloe vera makes an easy fit in most desks and office space.

5. Azalea
A visually appealing flowing shrub, this indoor plant also combats common office pollutants such as formaldehyde. It grows in a cool environment making it a suited office plant.

TIPS: How to tend indoor plants:

  1. Keep indoor plants away from near the doors and windows where sunlight is strong. Keep them in a cool spot for them to grow healthy and green.
  2. Keep the soil moist and dry at the same time. Do not water the plants in excess.
  3. Remove diseased and dead leaves from the plants
  4. Clean the dust on big leaves with a wet soft cloth regularly. Do not let the dust settle for long on the leaves.
  5. Wipe the plant containers clean and spray an anti-pesticide on the plants once in a while
  6. Shift the plants out in the open in a shady area once in a while for it to get fresh air and sunlight.
