Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi is being celebrated with much fervour and zeal across India, especially in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat. Ganesh Chaturthi is also observed in Nepal and some other countries by the Hindu diaspora around the globe.
The 10-day Hindu festival, which starts on the fourth day of month Bhadrapada is marked with the installation of Ganesha clay idols in homes, or on elaborate pandals. This year Ganesh Chaturthi falls between September 13 to September 22. The festival worships Lord Ganesha as the God of new beginnings, who is believed to remove obstacles and hardships from our lives. Ganesha is known as the god of wisdom and intelligence as well.
Meanwhile, India gets into the celebratory mood with the festivity of Ganesh Chaturthi as lakhs of devotees started to throng community pandal and will offer prayers, chant Vedic hymns like Ganapati Upanishad and do fast in order to seek blessings from Ganpati Bappa. Offerings are being distributed after daily prayers, which include sweets such as modaka, which is considered to be one of the favourites of our beloved deity Lord Ganesha.

On the tenth day of Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees carry the idol of Ganesha in a public procession with music and group chanting and immerse in a nearby water body to mark the end of the festival. Post immersion process, Lord Ganesha is believed to return to Mount Kailash to Parvati and Shiva.
In view of this 10-day-long festival, security has been beefed up to ensure smooth flow of traffic preventing inconvenience to commuters during colourful processions, celebrations and dance across India.
