Ganesh Chaturthi: From Bollywood to politics, celebrities offer prayers to Lord Ganesha

Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi is being celebrated with much fervour and zeal across India, especially in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat. Ganesh Chaturthi is also observed in Nepal and some other countries by the Hindu diaspora around the globe.

The 10-day Hindu festival, which starts on the fourth day of month Bhadrapada is marked with the installation of Ganesha clay idols in homes, or on elaborate pandals. This year Ganesh Chaturthi falls between September 13 to September 22. The festival worships Lord Ganesha as the God of new beginnings, who is believed to remove obstacles and hardships from our lives. Ganesha is known as the god of wisdom and intelligence as well.

Meanwhile, India gets into the celebratory mood with the festivity of Ganesh Chaturthi as lakhs of devotees started to throng community pandal and will offer prayers, chant Vedic hymns like Ganapati Upanishad and do fast in order to seek blessings from Ganpati Bappa. Offerings are being distributed after daily prayers, which include sweets such as modaka, which is considered to be one of the favourites of our beloved deity Lord Ganesha.

Here are the highlights on Ganesh Chaturthi:

# 9: 58 pm: Shah Rukh Khan with wife Gauri Khan, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar with wife Anjali Tendulkar and son Arjun Tendulkar and actor Salman Khan arrive at Mukesh Ambani's residence in Mumbai for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. 

# 09: 35 pm: Actors Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Cricketer Zaheer Khan with wife Sagarika Ghatage arrive at Mukesh Ambani's residence in Mumbai for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

# 09: 15 pm: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar offers prayers to lord Ganesha on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi at his residence in Pune.

# 04: 03 pm: Salman Khan's sister Arpita Khan brings an idol of Lord Ganesha to her residence on the ocassion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

# 03: 04 pm: Actor Nana Patekar and his family bring home an idol of Lord Ganesha on the ocassion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

#03: 01 pm: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and his family celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi at their residence in Nagpur.

# 02:33 pm: Actor Sonu Sood and his wife Sonali offer prayers to Lord Ganesha at their residence, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

# 02:19 pm: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his family bring home Lord Ganesha on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

# 01:53 pm: Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu and his wife Usha offer prayers at their residence on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

# 01:50 pm: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and his wife Amruta Fadnavis offer prayers at their residence on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

# 01:40 pm: Former Australian Cricketer Brett Lee participates in the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at Sion East's GSB Seva Mandal.

# 10:35 am: Mumbai: Devotees throng Ganesha Idol at Lalbaughcha Raja on the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi.

# 10:30 am: Aarti being performed at Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai on the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi.

# 10:25 am: PM Narendra Modi wishes netizens: Greetings on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. सभी देशवासियों को गणेश चतुर्थी के पावन पर्व की शुभकामनाएं।

On the tenth day of Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees carry the idol of Ganesha in a public procession with music and group chanting and immerse in a nearby water body to mark the end of the festival. Post immersion process, Lord Ganesha is believed to return to Mount Kailash to Parvati and Shiva.

In view of this 10-day-long festival, security has been beefed up to ensure smooth flow of traffic preventing inconvenience to commuters during colourful processions, celebrations and dance across India.
