Holi is all about colours and spending quality time with family and friends. The festival is celebrated with fervour and gaiety and it is all about turning your mates into colourful clowns.  It is believed that Krishna used to celebrate the festival with colours at Vrindavan and Gokul. The festival of Holi starts with Holika Dahan when people gather around a bonfire. This year Holika Dahan will be celebrated on March 09 by 11.17 PM. According to Drikpanchang.com, the Purnima tithi begins at 3.03 AM and ends at 11.17 PM.  Holika Dahan is followed by Rangwali Holi, the main day of celebration.

The aftermath isn’t exactly as lively as when at the moment. What we witness when all the fun subsides are pink or green face or hair which can cause skin allergies to erupt and the five months of assiduously taking care of those beautiful tresses all down the drain.
Holi is synonymous with colours and try as you may, it is really difficult to avoid colours. But what if you replace those chemical-induced colours for a healthier, eco-friendly version of colours?

Holi 2020: Here’re some alternatives to your synthetic colours

  1. Yellow: Use turmeric powder or gram flour for a bright yellow colour. Both these ingredients found easily in the kitchen have been used for skin care ingredients and face-pack preventing the skin your damage but instead making it glow.
  2. Pink: Beetroot powder not only gives you the pink colour for your Holi, it is also rich in is antioxidants, dietary fiber, calcium, iron, potassium, folate and manganese, along with other nutrients. 
  3. Green: For long, the use of henna powder for luscious hair have been widely known. beautiful green colour. It is also known to detoxify the body, improve nails, protect the skin, reduce inflammation. Hence, you don’t have to worry about the ‘greens’ being smashed-on in any part of your exposed body.
  4. Red: To get the red Holi colour, you can use sandalwood powder or powder dry hibiscus flower.
  5. Make a mixture using honey, papaya and Multani mitti and apply it on the portions with stubborn colours. This will lighten the colour. You can also keep the paste and apply for a few days after Holi, too.
  6. You can use coconut oil to zap off the colour. Besides, it also acts as a skin moisturiser.
  7. Avoid using hot water to remove colours.
  8. Use cold water because that will prevent the colours from sinking deep into the skin.
  9. Apply a mixture of honey and lemon juice, mixed in equal proportions, to remove the colours easily.
  10. Avoid using shampoo soon after playing with colous. Instead, apply egg yolk on your scalp and rinse it after half an hour. You can also use mustard oil to remove colours from your hair.
